What is an emergency squawk?
Pilots set their transponder to 7700 for a general emergency, 7600 for lost radio contact or 7500 for unlawful interference. Most 7700 codes are precautionary: a medical problem on board, a technical warning or a return to the departure airport. Codes are sometimes set by mistake and corrected within seconds.
Event detected automatically from live ADS-B data. Times are UTC. Automated detections can occasionally misread routine operations.
