What is a holding pattern?
Air traffic control holds aircraft in racetrack-shaped circuits when the destination cannot take them yet, often because of weather, runway changes or traffic peaks. PlaneTrack detects a hold when an aircraft turns through more than a full circle while staying roughly level and in the same area for several minutes.
